The Critical Parameter Sheet (CPS) and DoE made in the previous phase can serve as guide for these tests. However now we are going to test how much influence the parameters have on the output. Also make an Operation Map, with this tool you can see what alternates when adjusting a parameter. Fixing one problem could create a different one, this can often not be seen in DoE’s but they are clear in an Operational Map. Make just like in the α-phase Pareto’s to see what are the biggest rejects.

Not only keep yield in mind, but also cycle time and uptime. These three factors will give your output. SMED is a good tool to maximize uptime. The approach is to prepare as much as possible before turn of the production line.

When problems occur in this phase there are different tools to solve them:
  • Relatively simple problems can be solved by using ACTI
  • For the more severe problems it is sensible to use Six Sigma or an Ishikawa diagram
  • Form problems which you have no clue how to solved hem use TRIZ

Also make another risk assessment in this phase. An FMEA to look at the equipment is the right tool for this job. This is also called an Equipment FMEA.
